Alder Hey is one of Europe’s busiest children’s hospitals - caring for over 270,000 young people and their families every year. This year, they are moving to a stunning new hospital in a park. There's nothing like it anywhere in Europe. They urgently need to raise £30m for life-saving medical equipment, research and more to make the new Alder Hey in the Park a truly world-leading place.
Personally, we owe them big time. Our son (Jim's nephew) Rory had a life saving operation there aged 9 months old. He successfully had a large benign tumour removed from his chest cavity. He’s made a strong recovery since and is now a happy, healthy 3 year old. It was a pretty rocky road before he was transferred to Alder Hey. Having been through 2 A&E departments before Alder Hey, with varying diagnosis and one resuscitation (eternal thanks to you Laura x), we realise how valuable a specialist hospital like Alder Hey is. We are lucky to have such a facility on our doorstep.
Steph did a great job last year raising money with Paul & Stuart as they conquered the gruelling Slateman triathlon. So the baton has been passed over to Tom and we're glad to see Paul & Stu are back for more pain. In total there are around 15 of us from the village cycling gang plus Uncle Jimmy tackling the Fred Whitton route, a 112 mile loop around the Lake District. The route takes on the 6 main passes of Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose & Kirkstone. We aim to do the lot in one day, setting out at 5am on Friday July 10th. Hopefully we will all make the finish before sunset and raise a glass.
Any donations towards Alder Hey would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Tom & Steph x
