Story
In February this year, we lost my grandmother (known to her loved ones as Peeps), after a year long battle with cancer.
Peeps was a very special person to me and indeed to all that knew and loved her. She was warm and caring, and is utterly irreplaceable. This year has been very difficult to navigate without her regular doses of sound advice and consoling hugs. However, this pales into insignificance compared to watching someone you love in such pain and discomfort during their final months.
This is where Dorothy House Hospice comes in. Without the care and support of the amazing Hospice staff, I am not sure how we would have managed. They were there every step of the way, providing practical advice, comfort and reassurance to Peeps and our family. Peeps even became genuine friends with one of the carers.
As for myself, as many of you who know me will testify, despite my past of being an elite level swimmer, you didn't need to be a genius to realise that I let things slip slightly during uni and the subsequent years. I mentioned the idea of running the Bath Half Marathon for Dorothy House to Peeps before she died and her eyes lit up. It is a great cause and has given me a goal to work towards as I get back on track with my health and fitness, which was also important to Peeps. Eight months later and 25 kgs lighter, I am raring to go and see what I can achieve in her memory. The journey isn't over but I am well on my way!
If you can donate any amount to this wonderful charity, no matter how small, it would be hugely appreciated!
We all miss you Peeps! xx
