Maxime's Berlin Marathon Fundraising for PeacePlayers

Berlin Marathon 2016 · 25 September 2016 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit and for supporting my Berlin Marathon PeacePlayers' JustGiving page.
What?
Running and Finishing the 42.195 km of the Berlin Marathon 2016. While running a marathon is certainly a great personal challenge, I want to give this running a proper meaning and make every single step count by supporting as well as fundraising for a great cause!
Who am I supporting and why?
Recently, we have seen leaders in the world creating adversity, trying to build up walls between communities and encouraging a feeling of fear. Is this what we want for our children and future? Certainly not! Luckily there are plenty of real leaders and great organizations showing the lead in work long-lasting and peace-building initiatives.
Amongst them PeacePlayers International is showing true leadership to unite communities in conflict through sport. PeacePlayers International uses basketball to unite, educate and inspire young people to create a more peaceful world. Based on the premise that children who play together can learn to live together, they implement consistent, year-round sports activities that bring together children from opposite sides of religious, ethnic and cultural divides to develop long-lasting friendship and mutual respect.
I have been supporting this organization over the last years by volunteering and fundraising during some of their organized events. This time, I will start a personal initiative linked with my upcoming Berlin Marathon: running for PeacePlayers. I am therefore raising money to help PeacePlayers Northern Ireland, a non-profit organization that uses the game of basketball to unite children from Catholic and Protestant communities.
