I have chosen to run 5k every day for 50 days to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer’s Society. This is a cause very close to my heart after my Grandma was diagnosed with this disease 10 years ago, some of my closest friends and relatives have also been effected. 

We saw my Grandma deteriorate over the past 10 years ever so gradually until she peacefully passed away. My Grandma was always the savvy one, financially clever, putting Roy in his place, had a very strong head on her shoulders and would ensure we were fed constantly with baked goods. 

My Grandmas memory deteriorated beyond belief. There are times where she’d start a sentence and forget what she was talking about so cannot finish her point. She’d forget to drink her hot tea before it goes cold, and forget to eat her tea. 

Shirley was very lucky to have my Grandad as her full time carer however, it’s extremely hard for him to take on, especially as he was 90 years old at the time. For my Grandad it was extremely distressing, exhausting and emotional caring for her day in day out.  

This disease is  heartbreaking, it is almost as if Shirley wasn’t herself anymore her personality and beliefs altered massively. 

It would mean the world to me to have your support with this challenge I am embarking on. Every little helps and every penny will be going towards the Alzheimer’s Society to help fund research towards a cure and also funds towards helping carers and patients have a better quality of life.
