York Inflatable 5k Team OSCAR's · 18 June 2022 ·

OSCAR's PBTC was set up in memory of Oscar Hughes, a 9-year-old who died of a brain tumour in 2014. His journey was heartbreaking yet inspiring. OSCAR's aims to provide support and care to children with brain tumours, raise awareness to help diagnosis and fund research into better treatments.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When I was in Year 5 at primary school, my friend Oscar died from a brain tumour. He was the best footballer and tennis player and he'd probably have been playing for Manchester United by now. We raised lots of money when he was ill to try and send him to America for a trial that might have saved his life. One of the things we did as a whole school was a marathon run across the school playing fields to complete 26 miles together. Oscar did the final leg with our whole class even though it was really hard for him to walk after his chemotherapy.

After he died, his mum and dad set up a charity to make sure that no other children have to go through what Oscar did. The website of the charity is www.oscarspbtc.org.

Before we all left school in Year 6 we agreed that when we were old enough the whole class would get back together to do a big fundraising event for Oscar. Our year 6 class teacher Mr Martinez now works for Oscar's charity and he's organised a 5k inflatable run, so we're all running it together for Oscar.
