Story

This fundraising event is in loving memory of our beloved Jamie, my husband and JJ and Martin's dad who lost his brave battle with MND in April 2005.  MND is known in the US/Canada as ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

From 3 September 2009 we will be embarking on a 4 day trek along the Inca Trail to the ancient city of Machu Picchu in the Andes of Peru.  The route will be challenging, and the high altitude demanding, (and waaaay out of my comfort zone!! - May) so a gruelling 3 month training programme awaits..We need to raise £6000 between us in order to take part in the trek and we signed up very late so only have until August to do it...eek.. Challenging though it will be, it will be nothing like the daily challenge of someone living with MND.

Motor neurone disease is a neurodegenerative disorder where cells in the motor cortex of the brain begin dying inexplicably, leading to muscle wasting and inability to walk, talk, eat and latterly to move at all, although the intellect is not affected.  Many people diagnosed die within 14 months of diagnosis. The exact causes are still unknown, however  90% of cases occur indiscriminately and even affect people in their 20s and 30s.  There is currently no cure.

By sponsoring us you will be contributing to a truly worthy cause and helping to help those living with the disease and to help in finding a cure, so we thank you so much, in advance, for your generosity. Keep an eye on our page and our fundraising activities!  Love and best wishes.
