Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

Richard Mayne, a victim of the MH17 plane crash, was a talented rugby player and a muchloved teammate. In his memory, fellow team members who played alongside him for Market Bosworth RFC and some of Richard's closest friends are taking part in the Tough Mudder Challenge in order to raise money for a charity that Richard cared so much about.

Richard was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 8. He controlled his diabetes with great skill and he was heavily supported by Camp Charnwood, run by the Leicestershire Parents Group Summer Camp. In more recent years, he became a Camp Leader and helped many younger children to look after their Diabetes. These camps gave Richard, and many others, the confidence to recognise that independent, international travel and adventure activities were open to them as much as anyone - Flight MH17 was part of Richard's journey to Australia to further his travelling experience.

Described as "probably the toughest event on the planet", the Tough Mudder Challenge being taken on by the team consists of 12-miles of gruelling obstacles designed to push you to your limits.

There is no greater motivation needed than the fact we are doing this in memory of one of our closest friends, but if you can help us reach our donation target it would mean so much to all those who knew Rich and how much the charity meant to him.
