Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of disease. Our research includes cancer, Parkinson's and other diseases and could save millions of lives by improving diagnostics. We already help people manage complex, life-threatening medical conditions by training Medical Alert Dogs.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page. I Councillor Amanda Marlow, will be raising money for the Medical Detection Dogs as one of my chosen charities during my Mayoral year and I'd be so grateful for your support.

For ten years, Medical Detection Dogs, a world leading, innovative charity, has been training dogs to save lives using their amazing sense of smell.

They do this through Medical Alert Assistance Dogs, which support people with complex health conditions when they are in danger of having a potentially life-threatening medical event, so they can take the necessary action and prevent hospital admission. Using the power of their nose, these assistance dogs can be trained to detect even the faintest changes in the smell of their human partner. Conditions such as diabetes, severe allergies, PoTS, Addison’s disease and other chronic medical conditions with crisis[1] type
episodes are among those that the dogs can be trained to detect and alert well before their human partner is aware that an episode is about to occur.

And Bio Detection Dogs which are trained to detect even the
tiniest smells associated with cancers and many other diseases including Parkinson’s, malaria and bacterial infections. This pioneering work could lead to dogs playing an important role in screening for diseases and improving patient care in hospitals. Beyond this the charity’s vision is to help scientists and medics develop faster, cheaper, non-invasive methods of diagnosis that could impact upon thousands of lives.

Medical Detection Dogs has proved time and again that the
key to a greater understanding of the diagnosis of human disease is held in the paws of man’s best friend and they do it all for a biscuit or a tennis ball…
