Story
It will be 3 years on the 4th June since my daughter Freya was born, and 3 years on the 5th of June since she passed away at just 11 hours old. In a few short hours we went from a normal Monday at work, to meeting our little lady in a hurry, to our world collapsing around us and being faced with the reality of not bringing our beautiful girl home.
The support we have needed to get to where we are today cannot be underestimated. Ali has been by my side throughout almost my entire life, and never more so than through Freya’s arrival and the days and weeks, months and years that have followed. Throughout it all she has continued to make sure Freya is remembered in everything she does for the children, which as a bereaved parent means more than anything. It means so much that she is now supporting me through this walk in memory of the little lady that has a special place in our hearts.
Sands have been a constant avenue of support since we lost Freya, from the bereavement packs we left the hospital with, the online support forum, the counselling and support service, the work they do supporting hospitals and families, as well as the research to reduce the numbers of families that have to go through such a tragic loss. We are one of those families left not knowing why our baby died, and so research in this area is vitally important.
Ali and I would be beyond grateful if you coud help us get moving this June - we aim to walk 100 km between June 1st and June 30th in support of families who've lost a baby. Together we want to ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. We want to campaign for change and support research so that fewer babies die and so that fewer families experience the pain of losing a baby. Every step we take will help ensure no one faces the loss of a baby alone. Together we can continue to do all that we can to stop families from experiencing this devastating tragedy.
