Story
I witnessed my father, Eugene McClinton, degenerate with MND from a fit, active person, to one requiring complete health care in the latter stages of his life until his death in 2010. He was an exceptional man. This encouraged me to heighten awareness of MND and the devastating life changing impact this condition can have on peoples lives. In trekking to Everest base camp, almost 18000 ft, departing on the 8th April 2012, all money raised will support ongoing medical research in an effort to find a cure for this debilitating disease. Funding will also help provide a package of care for those currently living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in our community.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.
