Well, we made it; 15 people, 13 thousand kilometres, 31 days!

The relief on some of the faces was tangible but, as with any ordeal, after a while you only remember the good bits.  For some, finding the gym was the first big challenge but for others it was an opportunity to spend even more time in there without getting into trouble with the boss.  One of the team even managed to shed 5 kilos and, now that the tender parts are no longer as tender, we all feel a sense of well being and accomplishment.

As for the money, you can see that we are doing really well but we are still some way off.  If you have been kind enough to donate and are just popping back to see how we’re getting on, then please harass a friend or colleague in to making a donation.  If it’s your first visit to the page, then please give generously.  We are as determined to raise the 5 thousand pounds as we were to complete the 13 thousand kilometres.

Thank you for checking out the MCM1 Bahrain to Faslane Challenge at justgiving.com. 15 members of the Royal Navy’s First Mine Counter Measures Squadron (MCM1) covered the distance form (where they are currently operating) to Faslane (where they are based) in 31 days to raise money for Canine Partners, a charity which trains dogs to assist disabled people.  Many of the people who benefit are ex-servicemen and the aim is to give them greater independence and a better quality of life.  They aim to raise £5000, the cost of the first year of training for a dog.  The challenge was to complete the 12’964 km during a 33 day operation, which meant that the 15 members of the team had to complete between 25 and 30 km per day.  They completed the distance in 31 days and you can see how much they’ve raised; please help them to their goal by making a donation or they’ll be forced to post some pictures of the team in lycra!
