Story

Often the pressures and strains that can act as a catalyst to mental health issues are magnified for professional sportspeople who have to cope with injury, being out of contract, retirement, intense pressure to perform and facing constant media scrutiny.

Despite a number of high-profile athletes speaking out about their own struggles with mental health, the stigma around these issues remains.

With physical injuries- you go to the physios and doctors to get better but who do you turn to with mental problems?  There’s more pressure on athletes shoulders than the weights they lift.

Lift the Weight Campaign was set up by the Rugby Players Association as part of the Restart Charity to provide much needed support to players such as 24/7 access to a confidential counselor.

On the 18th June 10 members of MCS’s Sports Dept will cycle from Bournemouth to MCS in 1 day covering over 100 miles to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
