Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, nurses, physiotherapists and clinical team members based at the MDUK Oxford Neuromuscular Centre (www.onmc.ox.ac.uk), University of Oxford, volunteering and running for our charity, Muscular Dystrophy UK, at the Oxford Town and Gown 2021. In our daily lives, we work in the lab and clinic on a wide range of debilitating muscle wasting conditions, namely Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Myotonic Dystrophy and Motor Neuron Disease (MND)/ Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Approximately 70,000 people in the UK are living with debilitating muscle-wasting conditions, often leading to premature death or major chronic disability. DMD and SMA in particular, are devastating, life-limiting diseases that affect babies and young children. We are touched by the passion and drive of parents with children of these diseases, whom are thirsty for knowledge and whom motivate us to strive towards better treatments and ultimately cures for their children.
The money donated to the MDUK not only funds cutting edge research but also gives hope to so many parents and patients confronting these horrible diseases - the charity supports families with counselling and helps with equipment and facilities. We know that our daily research efforts (and aches and pains after the 10K run) are worth it.
Please help us to raise money for this fabulous charity and, together, let's paint this town Orange!
Thank you from all of us at the MDUK Oxford Neuromuscular Centre
