London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
In September 2009 my beautiful three year old son was diagnosed with the life limiting, muscle waisting disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His muscles waste each day and his life expectancy is the early 20’s. Dylan grows weaker as his peers grow stronger. At 16 he has lost the ability to walk, life gets more difficult every day. It’s so hard watching him struggle and face all the challenges life throws at him. No matter how well the day is going there is always a soundtrack of sadness in our life. Each time I run I wish he could be running next to me and sometimes the guilt I feel for being able to run is overwhelming, often tears are shed on my running vest.
I was 50 in May and I’ve decided to celebrate by running the London Marathon for MDUK. Thanks to their genetic research I was able to have a third child, Ewan who is not affected by the disease. MDUK fund various research projects and are incredible advocates for people affected by muscle waisting conditions. Times are difficult for us all at the moment, but I would be really grateful if you could sponsor me. Those 20 mile training runs will be just that little bit easier with your support. Thank you!
