Story
Watching patients being taken out of St. Thomas’ Hospital to enjoy the view of Parliament and the River Thames, MediCinema founder Christine Hill wondered what more could and should be done to give patients meaningful respite and entertainment.
Christine’s answer was to bring the excitement of the cinema experience to hospitals and places of care across the UK and so began the magic of MediCinema at St. Thomas’ Hospital in 1999…
14 years on and the MediCinema has become a thriving, free facility for patients, their carers and families, supported by a dedicated Cinema Manager and a loyal team of nurses and volunteers.
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP. Our facility at St. Thomas’ Hospital is the only MediCinema yet to be converted to digital. We are no longer able to support our film programme using 35mm prints and have been forced to close until we can raise the funds needed.
We need to raise £30,000 to:
- Install state-of-the-art 3D digital projection equipment
- Carry out necessary refurbishment works in the auditorium
- Improve the facility for patients
Twentieth Century Fox has shown overwhelming support for MediCinema – they have already kick-started the appeal by raising £12,000 towards a new digital projector.
So please help us keep this momentum. Donate now so that we can re-open a new, digital St. Thomas’ Hospital MediCinema in the autumn and continue to bring the joy of film to hundreds of patients in the years to come.
