Story
We are a group of first year medical students at the University of Sunderland and have decided to run the Sunderland Half Marathon on Sunday 7th May 2023 in aid of the North West Air Ambulance (NWAA) charity.
One of our anatomists, Alice Roberts, shared her personal story with us about the life-saving treatment she received from the NWAA. After further research, we discovered that the Air Ambulance charity receives no government or NHS funding and totally relies on donations to continue saving lives 365 days a year. This has inspired us to run the Sunderland Half Marathon on behalf of this incredible charity.
Alice’s story is below:
"The North West Air Ambulance rescued me in 2010 following a serious road traffic collision from which I obtained several life-threatening injuries including multiple pelvic fractures, a compound fracture of the humerus, and a ruptured diaphragm. There is no doubt that without the help of the NWAA I wouldn't be here today."
We are very grateful for any donation you can make and sincerely appreciate your support.
Thank you so much,
Emma Ratcliffe, Rosie Harris, Ella Gregory, Philippa Halse, Holly Diamond & Megan De-Alker.
