You might have seen some of our posts recently sharing that one of our close friends, Rachael and her husband Andy received the terrible news that their son, little 2 year old Rory 'tiger' has leukaemia. A happy, healthy, fun loving little boy who's cheeky smile can light up a room...this diagnosis won't change any of that but he's got a long battle ahead to fight this cruel disease.
As Parents, it doesn't even bear thinking about the devastation that this sort of news can cause. Whilst it's Rory that's going to battle the disease physically, for those around him especially Rach and Andy and all their family, it's the emotional side of things that they will need to battle through.
To feel so helpless at a time where one of your best friend needs you is hard, so to show a little bit of support in some way, we (Megan, Sam, Albie & Edie. Laura, Adam, Ava & Grace, Nic, Tom, Jacob & Oliver. Becky, Sam and Sophia) have signed up to do this 4km walk. 4km doesn't sound a lot, but for little legs, trust us when we say it is!
In Rach's words... 'it's the place that will save Rory's life.' In the next few years they will be spending a lot of their time there. So to help, even just a little bit, it will make all the difference to their journey and Rory 'tiger' beating this god awul disease!
Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital receives over 280,000 patient visits every year. For those children and their families it can be a very difficult time but with your help we can make it better for every child, every day. The support that Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital provides helps families to stay together and support one another during what can be a very difficult time for them. Our charity is about making a difference to the thousands of children we see every year. We do this by supporting projects that provide state-of-the-art and specialised equipment to help improve the diagnosis and treatment of children. We also support research that can help us to better understand childrens illnesses and provide the treatments of the future and we support projects that help to create a more child friendly environment. We want to ensure that not only is Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital the largest childrens hospital in the country - but one of the best.
