Story
In 2021, I lost one of my best friends to suicide. Joe was the most loving and caring person I knew. He never failed to make everyone laugh and I'd do anything to hear his infectious laugh again. I'm honoured to be able to call him one of my best friends. In the 7 years of our friendship, he was always there to support and help me through hard times. Since his death, I struggled with my own mental health and had to find support in new places.
Joe was passionate about many things, including athletics (in particular running). This is why I have chosen to complete the Great North Run in memory of him. This is out of my comfort zone but I am motived not only to make myself proud but Joe proud too.
Losing someone at such a young age is not something I never expected to happen and Joe is a huge miss for many people. This has made me more passionate about breaking the stigma of mental health struggles.
In completing the Great North Run, I will be raising money for the charity Mind. Mind is a mental health charity in England and Wales. 1 in 4 people struggle with mental health and the greatest cause of death for men under the age of 35 is suicide. Mind provides support, advice and information for those with mental health and those supporting the individual. By raising money for Mind, you are helping more people with mental health problems get the support they need and the respect they deserve.
If you are able to donate in the memory of Joe, I would be incredibly grateful as all proceeds go towards raising awareness and providing support for those experiencing mental health problems through the works of Mind.
