Story
On the 26th November 2014, my school friend Rob Harris unfortunately lost his battle to testicular cancer at the age of 21. Rob was someone I always looked up to throughout school, he was never without a smile on his face and I was constantly inspired by his positive attitude and love for others. He was a genuine pleasure to be around and I count myself lucky to be his friend.
I thought it was only apt to do something positive to remember Rob, so in 2014 I took up running long distance races to raise money for his chosen charity, Clic Sargent Young Patients Cancer Charity. I hope my fundraising efforts will help raise awareness for cancer in young people, encourage more people to get regular health checks and raise money for young people who are currently battling the disease.
And wow guys, what a crazy few months it has been. On January 6th, I successful completed 36 hours of live radio presenting and with your help, raised over £1000. Thank you so much for tuning into RadioRobbie. It was so much fun!
Then earlier in March, 'The CLIC Mystery Machine' had its racing debut at Silverstone Racecourse Half marathon. We finished with the machine in an impressive time of 2hrs 48mins. This meant that we got the official green light from Guinness World Records to attempt a world record for 'the fastest marathon ran in a five person costume' at VLM 2017. We couldn't be more excited so be sure to look out.
Below is a list of events I have completed in Rob's memory so far:
London Winter Run 10k 2015, Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon 2015, Silverstone Half Marathon 2016 and the Virgin London Marathon 2016. (In March 2016, I participated in a 26.2 hour radio presenting marathon to raise money and awareness). You've Got A Friend In Me Virtual 6k, Catch 'Em All Challenge Virtual 17k, Harry Potter Platform 9 3/4k and the Half Blood Prince Half Marathon Virtual Run.Thorpe Park Half Marathon and Silverstone Half Marathon as part of the Guinness World Record trials.
The Virgin London Marathon 2017 is soon approaching and the finish line will mark the 1000th mile of my 1000 mile challenge that I started on 21st September 2017. Its been one crazy running journey but I wouldn't change a second. Thanks so much for your continued support.
Look out for the mystery machine chasing down ghosts in London on Sunday 23rd April.
Thank you so much for your support and donations, they truly do go a long way. Please do continue to follow my running story and watch this space for more event updates!!
