Story

I should have been running the London Marathon 2020 for
Poole hospital but we all know what happened in 2020 so mass events couldn’t take place! I did take part in the virtual London marathon around Poole but it certainly wasn’t the true London Marathon experience. Thankfully my place has rolled over
to 2021 so on Sunday 3rd October, I will be on the start line in London
to raise money for Poole hospital which is now part of University Hospitals
Dorset.

Poole hospital has played a massive part in my life, not only
was I born there but in the winter of 2007, I spent 5 weeks as an inpatient suffering from pneumonia, vasculitis and a viral infection. The doctors and nurses not only saved my life but the experience changed my life in a way I could never have imagined.  They say everything happens for a reason and my hospital stay made me realise that I wanted to go back to university and retrain to be a nurse, less than 1 year after my illness I started my degree at Bournemouth University and I haven’t looked back since.

I have now been a qualified nurse for nearly 9 years and spent
6 of them working on the respiratory ward where I was an inpatient.  The teams across the entire hospital, nurses, doctors, physio’s, porters, cleaners to name just a few always strive to provide
safe, high quality, patient centred care and over the last 18 months they have risen to challenge often putting their patients’ needs above their own, and I’m so proud of each and every one of them. Any donations you make towards my fundraising will go not only to enhance the care and treatment of patients but also to support staff health and wellbeing.  As you can see Poole hospital means a lot to me and anything you can give to help with my fundraising will be gratefully received by both myself and the charity.
