Mel's Folkestone Harbour 1.5km sea swim

Folkestone harbour sea swim · 13 September 2020
Almost exactly 2 years ago we walked into our 18 week scan to discover our daughter's lung hadn't formed properly. Many horrible weeks followed where we had to wait until the crucial 28 weeks to discover what impact this lung malformation was likely to have on her lungs, heart and ultimately her survival. Throughout pregnancy, we were monitored by fetal specialists at the Evelina, who were patient, kind and so caring. Thankfully at birth, she was born asymptomatic but in the months following we had multiple trips to London for assessments, blood tests and a CT scan. In January 2020, at just 11 months old our daughter had an operation to remove the lower lobe of her left lung. It was the most incredibly stressful time of our lives. The operation was carried out at the Evelina and thankfully our daughter made the speediest recovery thanks to the brilliant staff there. We will forever be grateful to all the staff at the Evelina who provided this first class care for our baby girl. We would really like to raise some money for this amazing hospital to help support staff, patients and families.
