Story

As some of you may know, my wonderful Dad, Terry, was diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma in 2019.

At first we were told that not much could be done, however he was given proton beam radiotherapy and was eventually told that his tumour had shrunk and no more treatment needed, but would need regular scans.

In December 2021, my Dad received the devastating news that this horrible disease had spread and that he now has liver metastasis and that his time is very limited.

To say we are truly devastated is an understatement. He is now having immunotherapy to try and prolong the time he has left. I would like to say that he his facing this news head on and is an absolute warrior and my Hero.

So I would like to raise some money for this very rare disease. I, along with my partner Rob will be cycling 200 miles each over the month of May and I am asking my dear friends and family to help us out a little. I want to raise as little as £100, so any donations would be very welcome. Please support this charity as they really do need our help to fight this awful disease. Thank you. Mel Burgess.

Ocular Melanoma is a type of eye cancer in adults. It is a rare cancer with approximately 600 new cases diagnosed in the UK each year. Unfortunately, around half of all patients may go on to develop tumours in other organs, particularly the liver. Many people have never heard of this disease and patients and their family members often feel scared and alone, due to the lack of information available. OcuMel UK is a small UK based charity, providing free support for anyone affected by Ocular Melanoma. Your fundraising will help us to continue to offer our vital services, which includes running a helpline, access to an online community, psychological support, advocacy and volunteer run face-to-face support groups. Help us achieve our aim of bringing the treatment of Ocular Melanoma in line with that of the more common cancers. Thank you for your support.
