Story

I have recently lost my Nan, Irene Pattinson, to cancer. She had cancer of the bowel and secondary cancer of the liver which had also spread throughout her entire body.

She was admitted in to King's Lynn hospital on 26th January 2015 and put on such a brave and courageous fight, but unfortunately, she lost her battle to cancer and she died on Easter Sunday (5th Aptil 2015)

The Macmillan nurses helped the family and my nan deal with the immediate effect of the illness. Once it was realised she was terminal, MacMillan helped my nan with the "healing" process so that she wouldn't be as frightened when the time came for her to pass. They offered immense support to the family which was invaluable at such a testing time.

I will be taking my brave warrior horse, Out For A Stroll, to complete a 20 mile ride through Newmarket. Starting at the Newmarket July Race Course and finishing with a 1 mile gallop down the Cambridge road grass gallops. The route also includes the infamous Warren Hill, Severals and the Al-Bahathri all weather gallop. I find it fitting that Strolls should do this. My nan was a very proud women, an animal lover and had amazing internal strength. Out For A Stroll, my 16 yr old ex racer, who had 12 wins from 65 starts, also showed guts and determination 2 years ago to come through his own adversity and neglect.

Ladies and gentleman, I ask you to dig deep and show support for all those you have lost to this deadly illness. Together we will beat it, but for now, please put your hand in to your pockets to help those who are going through the same. The work Macmillan do is invaluable. Thank you Out For A Stroll for being and inspiration and may you forever RIP nanny. (Irene Pattinson)
