Alzheimer's Society - Trek the Inca Trail in Peru · 12 May 2012 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Take a 54 year old reasonable fit woman (I have got my fingers crossed behind my back) then let her loose on a challenging trek through Peru on narrow tracks at high altitude! That is pretty much what is going to happen in May 2012.
Hello my name is Melanie McGrory and this is a plea from the heart for sponsorship money for the Alzheimer’s Society to help them in there fight against dementia. It is an insidious illness which creeps along, steeling away the person you know and love in front of your eyes.
My Mum and my Father in law are suffering from this horrible disease. From my work I also know first hand the destructive nature of this illness. I had the privilege to work with Jean a classy and wonderful lady. Sadly I never met the ‘real’ Jean as Dementia had already taken its hold on her. We travelled the last year of her journey together; it was a humbling experience and an honour to become her friend.
It is an 8 day trek from Cusco to Rumira in Peru I am undertaking in May 2012, we have two 5 hour and two 12 hour days at high altitude and is the only way I can help her, my Mum, Father-in-Law and the memory of my amazing Mother-in-Law Rose who was also taken by this illness in January 2010.
So if by walking as hard and as far as I can will collect some money and make a difference I will. A few blisters, aches and pains will be part of the journey for me and a small price to pay.
Please, please sponsor me in my effort to raise money.
In remembrance of Rose, Jean, Jeanie and for Joyce, Hugh, Mavis and the thousands of nameless others I thank you.
Let’s make the difference together … I’ll do the miles …. You do the dip in the pocket! …Please.
I am funding myself so EVERY PENNY you donate will go directly to the Alzheimer Society.
Many many thanks Melanie
I am planning on doing a ‘Blog’ of my training when I can get a young person to show me how to do it!
