Melanin Gamers 24-Hour Sickle-Cell Awareness Day Stream

MG 24-Hour Sickle-Cell Awareness Day Stream · 19 June 2020
Melanin Gamers is a gaming community that promotes inclusion and diversity in the video games industry. We are doing a 24-hour stream for Sickle-cell Awareness Day.
World Sickle Cell Day is a United Nation’s recognised day to raise awareness of sickle cell at a national and international level. Sickle cell is a public health problem and “one of the world’s foremost genetic diseases.”
Donations made will be going to the Blood Fund, the haematology department at Hammersmith Hospital London.
Clinical research
We offer our patients new treatments through ethically approved clinical trials, which are the best way to assess the benefits of these exciting new therapies in a safe and regulated environment. We are limited in the number of trials we can offer because of a shortage of highly-skilled research nurses. Money raised through The Blood Fund will mean more nurses, so we can carry out more vital research.
Patient care
We want to increase the number of Clinical Nurse Specialists who provide personal care and expert advice, while making our outpatient waiting areas more comfortable with new seating, television screens and artwork.
Support for the scientists of the future
Funds are urgently needed to allow our younger doctors and scientists to spend more time in the laboratory on research. We want to support these talented young people to develop their careers in blood diseases by giving them time to develop their ideas and prepare grant applications to our national funding bodies.
