Story
I know from personal experience that time spent in a hospital can be tough whether as a patient or as a visitor. Salisbury District Hospital's charity Stars Appeal complements the great care being given by providing welcome extras such as free wifi or beds for parents of young inpatients to CAT scanners.
Having benefitted from those extras many times with my family and friends, I now want to raise funds for the Stars Appeal so that others can benefit from their amazing work at Salisbury District Hospital.
After being physically and mentally challenged in 2022 doing The Trek to Petra, I am doing it all again but to the Lost City in Colombia in 2024. Madness perhaps, but every penny of fundraising is earned with every challenging step.
The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1979, run through Colombia and end close to the Caribbean Sea on the north coast. They are cloaked in dense tropical rainforest, which hides the ruins of Teyuna, dating back some 1500 years, and more famously known as the Lost City.
To reach the 1200 ancient stone steps that lead up the city, we trek on steep, sometimes overgrown and muddy trails, through lush jungle and river valleys, crossing clear streams. En route we pass indigenous Kogul communities, descendants of those early builders; we sleep near these settlements in hammocks. Rated a "tough trek" so going to be challenging to say the least.
I need to raise at least £1500 which will all go to the Stars Appeal. I am covering all my own costs myself.
