PACE Children's Challenge 2018 · 19 July 2018

We want every child in the UK with a neurodisability like cerebral palsy - and their families - to have access to learning and life changing therapy, aligned with our Pace approach. Our specialist clinical, education and therapy teams work with babies, children & young people from 0-18.

Story

About Amelie
Amelie was born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and is physically and mentally disabled. She has global developmental delay, epilepsy and speech and language problems. The basic day to day tasks such as walking, self care, feeding are very difficult for Amelie.

Despite this she is very determined, with a naughty sense of humour and the most beautiful smile. She has made real progress during her time at PACE and continues to work very hard in her quest to achieve basic life skills and communicate.

Amelie's Challenge
To raise funds for the wonderful work that PACE do, Amelie has been tasked with a 2018 challenge:

“My challenge is to use my left hand to reach and hold a beanbag which I will then drop to activate a switch.”

This is a challenge for Amelie as she finds it difficult to extend her arm/ fingers and her head control makes it difficult for her to look at her hands. Improving her hand skills will allow Amelie increased access to play, exploration, using switches for communication and powered mobility.

What is so special about PACE?
Amelie is lucky enough to attend the PACE centre. She has learned and developed more in her 18 months at PACE than in the previous 5 years. (www.thepacecentre.org).

PACE is a charity based in Buckinghamshire that gives developmental assistance to physically disabled children who find learning everyday skills difficult. PACE believe in each child's ability to learn despite their disability and provides an inspirational environment motivating the children to work hard achieving goals. Help includes physical, social, communication, academic and self care skills.

What can YOU do?

We would really appreciate your support to raise money for PACE and enable the charity to continue the good work. Every penny raised is used efficiently and is genuinely precious to all the children and families who benefit from PACE.
