Kilimanjaro Summit Challenge · 11 October 2012

The Space Centre provides a unique, versatile Multi Sensory Environment for children and adults with physical, learning and emotional difficulties. We offer 3 large sensory rooms where those with disabilities can safely develop skills and enjoy experiences not usually accessible to them.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you know I turned 30 in August 2012 and was due to climb Kilimanjaro in October to celebrate and raise money for the SPACE Centre. A couple of weeks before, I injured my knee in Snowdon and was advised by the doc to postpone :-(

I am now proud to say that I have completed the trek and reached the summit of Kili (5898m) on the morning of Thursday 24th October. A once in a lifetime experience which was challenging but made all the more easier by knowing that the hard work, altitude sickness and sleepless nights was made worthwhile by the money raised for the SPACE Centre.

Many of you will be aware that the last year has been an extremely difficult one for The Space Centre, however I am over the moon to have been told that they have been taken over and will be staying open.

The Space Centre truly is an amazing place! It is the largest multi-sensory environment in the UK for anyone with special needs with people travelling from all over the country to use it. Due to high demand they are expanding and the money I am hoping to raise will help equip the 3 rooms with the specialist sensory apparatus required to create the fantastic environment.

Having spent some days there as a child helping out (many years ago!), I have had a small insight into the work that is done and the enjoyment it brings to the people using the centre. I pass the Space Centre everyday on my way to work and am so pleased that I am able to contribute to equipping the new centre.

This was the biggest challenge of my life but also one of the most rewarding and wonderful experiences I have had to date. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DONATE - any amount is a good amount!

Thank you :-)
