Story

London Marathon 2021

On 3rd October 2021 I will be heading off to London and running the London Marathon raising money for Sepsis UK Trust.  Sadly this is what took my Dad from us 3 years ago now.  Sepsis is a life threatening condition that can quickly cause your body to overreact to an infection and turn in on itself.

It’s less than three weeks to go now and it’s safe to say my training has not gone as planned.  I started off well but then a busy Summer at work followed by an injury got in the way.  I am back out and running again now and committed to completing the course on the day.  Last year I did the virtual marathon but being in London this year for the event will certainly be an amazing experience and with the added support from you all with your kind donations and thinking about memories with my Dad will give me the motivation to get round.

What the charity does

We work to raise awareness of sepsis among the public and health care professionals; encourage early diagnosis; lobby politicians to improve standards of care; and provide better support for sepsis survivors.

Our goal is to end preventable deaths from sepsis and improve outcomes for sepsis survivors. We believe that earlier diagnosis and treatment across the UK would save several thousand lives a year.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
