Story

This page will be active until September for donations and the walk will take place on the 20th of August until the 27th 🙃

So myself David McConn and my friend Christopher Hyland will be taking on the challenge of trekking 7 marathons in 7 days from the East coast of Ireland to the West.

There are many reasons we are doing this challenge but they all involve mental health. We have found a great Charity called SOS (Suicide or Survive ) which we want to raise as much money as we possibly can to keep them helping people that need it. I myself have suffered with mental health issues in the past and I see it in some of my friends. I have lost too many people I was close to and I am only 30. We buried  our good friend Daniel Keigher Christmas Eve 2020 and that was the tipping point for me. I will be doing this walk in his memory because he was truly an amazing individual. Everyone is going through tough times at the moment and we need to be strong and know organisations like SOS are there to help us and be there when we fall. We have all experienced mental health issues big or small it is irrelevant, tough times are tough times. We need to support each other and help each other. We are all in this together.

I have had my own problems in the past like everyone else and I got through them but it is hard I know, it's a tough struggle, it is harder when another thing knocks you back down and you have to grind your way back but we do it, We did it and we are stronger for it. I have had so many battles with myself but I always came out the other side. Sometimes I could not see a way out. I felt alone, afraid and could not see how I would get through it. By changing some things in my life and not giving up I clawed my way out those dark days and feel I am a better person for it. I know I will go through some dark days again but I am not afraid of them because I have gotten through it once I can do it again. The up side is to really appreciate the good when its there and the good people you are around. That to me is worth the fight every time just knowing there will be more good times and more good souls to meet.

This trek for me is a few things, It is in memory of Daniel and all the other friends we have lost. It is a personal journey for my own mind as well as a journey to raise awareness for people that don't know the help is there. It does not mean you are a weak person because you have received help, it is the complete opposite. We all need help in life and i am so happy these orginasations are there  for us. You can follow the Journey on social media and i hope you have the best day today because you deserve it.
