Fundraising for Medical Aid to Sri Lanka
Story
As some of you know we lost our grandmother, Mercy Sirimanne, last year, aged 84. She was a wonderful grandmother, nurse and friend to so many, and we wanted to do something special in her memory.
We are supporting the Cataract Project by Medical Aid to Sri Lanka. We want to raise enough funds to save 150 people from blindness. More information about the Cataract Project is below.
Just £20 can buy the lens and post-operative drugs needed for one cataract surgery. Our aim is to raise £3000 and we are relying on your support! A donation from you would mean so much to us and the Cataract Project! As a special thank you, everyone who donates will also be entered into a fantastic prize draw on the 14th of April!
A £5 donation will put your name into the draw once, a £10 donation will put your name in twice, £15 thrice and so on. Please use your full name when donating and keep your confirmation email from JustGiving. The prize draw will be on the 14th of April, 2015 and winners will be announced here, by email and on our Facebook page. How does the Cataract Project work?
Cataracts are a leading cause of blindness, especially in old age, but can be rectified by a simple surgery. A large number of people go blind in Sri Lanka for want of a simple cataract operation. The Cataract Project buys the lenses and post-operative drugs for patients in rural parts of Sri Lanka who would otherwise not be able to afford them. The eye surgeons use these to perform the surgeries (for free).
Why did we choose this charity?
Medical Aid to Sri Lanka is run entirely by volunteers, so everything you donate will directly benefit the patients who need it most. We also wanted to choose a project where something as little as £20 could have such a tremendous impact on someone's life. We will get feedback about the patients who receive these lenses, and we are happy to pass this information to you (just let us know and we will keep you in the loop).
