Story
Meto Lakha
Devoted Wife, Revered Mother, Beloved Daughter, Sister, Aunt & Friend.
Meto passed away about 5.30pm on 14th February after falling ill on 12th February.
Meto had battled various health issues throughout her life. She was diagnosed with Lupus in the mid-1980s and had suffered two strokes and kidney problems, but always faced them with strength and determination to not to let it control her life, always being there for her family and never taking her social responsibility for granted.
Even juggling raising 3 children, being a devoted wife, running her business and being an integral part of her extended family she still felt she had more to give to the people of Coventry.
Meto, a former Lyng Hall School pupil, caught the political bug as a young girl after attending Labour party meetings to act as a translator for her father.
She actively got involved in local communities and became a school governor from 1990 to 2004.
She was a Radford ward councillor from 1992 to 1994 and a Foleshill ward councillor from May 2000 to 2004.
She gained great respect from Foleshill residents and her colleagues when she left hospital during a six-month stay against doctors’ orders to attend a meeting in October 2003 in a wheelchair to vote on the multimillion project to build the Ricoh Arena and to make sure it went ahead, a meeting that lasted 10 hours, after which she went back into hospital.
She said at the time: "I've come in because I feel the arena is very important for Foleshill and I feel very strongly about it. It's going to be employment for people and socially that area is going to be developed."
Some people spoke of her immense courage at the time; however those that knew her well knew this was another example of her strength and determination to do what she felt was right.
She battled Lupus all through her life and was determined it would not stop her from being all that she could be.
As such we are asking that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Lupus UK.
