MHA Urgent Covid-19 Appeal
Campaign by MHA (RCN 1083995)
Facing Covid-19 is challenge for all of us. MHA have identified those in our care as some of the most vulnerable & susceptible to the virus. We urgently need your support so that we can help those in our care & their families at this challenging time

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our page.

As many of us are adapting to a new way of life, a large proportion of older people are feeling lonelier than ever and facing challenging times.

Enfield Live at Home is used to supporting the older community through various social activities including coffee mornings, lunch clubs, social groups and exercise classes, however due to the recent developments and Government guidance we have had to temporarily pause our sessions and find a new way to continue empowering and supporting the older generation living in Enfield.

Since the breakout, we have been establishing a telephone befriending service where we have actively supported over eighty older people on a weekly basis, both from our current membership group whilst also taking on new referrals to support those in need. Alongside this, we have also been engaging with local nurseries and schools who have shared their talents with us, creating small cards and gift bags that we have been able to deliver to our members and bring a smile to their face.

The impact of this so far has been monumental, with those who have received one of our care packages making contact with us to tell us how much it meant to them and helped them to realise they are not alone, inspiring them to think of the future when we will be able to get back to our normal routines.

From this we want to keep expanding our services and many of our members have mentioned they miss the regular interaction that Live at Home offers and would like some of the magic to be delivered to their doorstep. Although we can't run our social groups at the moment, we want to develop an initial activity pack with the hopes to continue developing this for the course of the isolation period, that they can do in the comfort of their own homes.

The money raised from this page will be used to support the older community of Enfield and enable us to create innovative activity packs that can stimulate our members and keep them feeling engaged until we are able to meet again. We are hoping to include activities such as: quizzes, sudoku, exercise routines, craft materials and kits, adult colouring pages, art supplies and much more (along with some home comforts and sweet treats to brighten those gloomy days). We are also working to develop "Green care" activities that encourage those that have gardens or outdoor space, to utilise this opportunity and get in touch with their natural surroundings.

Many of our members are not online and are feeling disconnected from the outside world. We understand these notions but want to express that a small act of kindness can go a long way and remind them that there are people who are thinking of them, and lift a layer of loneliness to help get them through these times.

We're incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported us on this journey so far, and hope that you will join us in the fight against loneliness at this life changing time.
