Story
Hi, my name is Jamie.
I'm a first year computer science student at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
In order to make the most of my time at University, I've chosen to fundraise for and participate in a trek to the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco for the UK's leading end-of-life care charity, Marie Curie.
This includes trekking to the summit of the highest mountain in northern Africa, Mount Toubkal!
Why I chose to do this?
Most of my life, I've been a fairly reserved person and felt like I haven't pushed myself as much as I could.
When I heard about this challenge, I was afraid and didn't want to do it, but couldn't think of a reason why. So I have ignored those doubts and have chosen to push myself and do something truly productive that can help other people.
About Marie Curie
Marie Curie believes that everyone living with a terminal illness should be able to get the most from the time they have left, however hard that may sometimes feel.
They aim to help everyone in the UK through all aspects of dying, death and bereavement – and to fight for a society where everyone gets to have the best experience possible at the end of their lives.
"We'll be here for you and your family when you may feel like no-one else is, to help you cope when you don't know how. Marie Curie Nurses care for you in your home, when you need them most, day or night. Our hospices are at the heart of communities around the UK. And our trained volunteers and advisers are here for you with practical information and support when you don't know what to do next or just need to talk. We'll be by your side with care and support every step of the way, bringing light in the darkest hours."
