Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity is dedicated to supporting the RAH neonatal unit in Glasgow. Using funds donated by our supporters, we help the unit to buy equipment, and enable projects, that directly help the babies looked after on the unit.

Story

I’m taking part in Glasgow Kiltwalk 2023 ‘the Mighty Stride’ with a team from work; walking 23 miles from Glasgow Green to Lomond Shores to raise money for the Royal Alexandra Neonatal Unit in Paisley.

In August 2021 my daughter Blair was admitted to the unit after being born 10 weeks premature, weighing 2lb 6oz.

She was looked after by the brilliant staff on the unit, where she stayed for 10 weeks. Initially in the neonatal intensive care unit, where at 10 days old the doctors identified she had contracted meningitis and quickly began treatment which ultimately saved her life. One day before her due date we got the green light to bring Blair home at 4lb 2oz.

We will be forever grateful to the doctors and nurses who looked after Blair, and supported us through this period and beyond with weekly follow ups at home by the neonatal team, and 6 monthly check ups at the Royal Hospital for Children until she’s 2 years old.
