We help transform struggling teenagers to become positive role models

Story

In less than 9 days time I'm going to Greenland to ski over 100km whilst hauling a 45kg sled behind me!  There are 10 of us (age 14-17yrs) who will be in the Expedition Team; with our Polar Academy guides making sure that our navigation is right and looking out for Polar bears! Our route across East Greenland will start and finish at Tasiilaq and we'll be sleeping in tents, cooking our own food and watching for the Northern Lights at night...if we are lucky!

I've been in the Leadership Team (reserve team) since last September but both the Expedition and Leadership Teams have trained together throughout.  Every Thursday evening we've been doing a high intensity circuit training session and we've spent weekends since January dragging tyres through the Trossachs, around Fettes College and along the beach at St Andrews!  The training has been hard work and I've had to be really organised to fit it all in with everything I do at at school.  I know that the expedition will tough but I am massively excited about this great opportunity.  When I come back I'll be taking part in a series of talks, to schools and organisations across Scotland, to tell others about my adventure and carry on The Polar Academy task of "inspiration through exploration".

The Polar Academy is a charity which takes children on Polar expeditions to help them unlock their potential and become more confident and better role models for their peers and the community. The founder of the charity and leader of our expedition is Craig Mathieson, an experienced leader of Arctic and Antarctic expeditions and Scotland's first "Explorer in Residence" at The Royal Scottish Geographical Society.

Please, if you can, sponsor me so that Craig can start to build the funds to take a new team on the expedition next year.
