Debate Mate is an educational charity that develops key 21st century skills including communication, core confidence and leadership in some of the UK's most disadvantaged areas. This is taught through the medium of debating, delivered by top university mentors in after-school clubs.

Story

Over three weeks, myself and eight other mentors will be teaching children at the Samata “Bamboo” Schools in Kathmandu (UNESCO world heritage site), Bhaktapur and Pokhara, how to articulate themselves confidently in English. The confidence and skills we give them will hopefully last a lifetime! After delivering intensive training we gather everyone for a day long debating competition to bring together all the skills learned into a high paced, professional debate.

I believe the impact of any charity is measured by sustainability. Through this programme, Debate Mate also attempts to pass on mentorship skills to those kids who excelled at debating during the programme. I will be teaching those kids to be mentors like myself. This is with hopes of introducing a model that builds communication skills and sustaining it over time, even when we leave the country.

Donations will go straight to the organization; Debate Mate will organize and allocate all fundraised money to deliver the Programme in Nepal to its full potential. Please support this cause, as the money will enable me to travel and deliver the mentorship abroad.

Thank You!
