Story

Recently our eldest daughter, Mylah, has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After taking her to the GP with what we thought was a urine infection, nearly 24 hours later we were given the life changing diagnoses that she is infact diabetic. We had no idea, putting her severe thirst and frequent weeing down to a urine infection - to be told that we had to be in A&E within 2 hours with an overnight bag.

Mylah has been, and is, an absolute trooper. She has not moaned once when we have to inject her, a minimum of 4 times a day, she hasn't moaned with the millions of finger pricks she had to do with no warning while in hospital, she hasn't moaned once about having to have a CGM device constantly glued to her arm so we can monitor her glucose levels, she has never complained about being woken up at silly oclock throughout the night because she is having a hypo and we need to treat her. The only time she moans is taking the very sticky plaster off from around her CGM because it pulls her arm hairs 🤣 .

I couldn't be prouder of Mylah - i wish I could be as strong as her. Because as a parent of a 5 year old T1D is a struggle. Trying to make sure she doesnt feel any different from her peers, constantly questioning yourself and what you're giving her, insulin and food wise, remembering all the different information that has been given to us over the past month. Its a lot. Hopefully Jon and I can mull over some of this massive change while walking our 60 miles!

The support we have had from the diabetes team so far is second to none and we are so grateful.

Obviously we are, as everyone is, hoping that one day there is a cure - so our babygirl can live in peace when she is our age, hopefully. So this is our first, of probably many, fundraisers.

Thankyou for all your support ❤️
