Story
We’re taking on the 4‑mile Kiltwalk to support Aberdeen Independent Multiple Sclerosis (AIMS). AIMS exists to empower people living with MS and similar neurological conditions to lead independent lives by providing accessible exercise, social connection and wellbeing support.
AIMS stands out because it blends physical, creative, emotional, mindfulness-based, and social support in one place, something most services separate into different programmes or don’t offer at all. I am one of the instructors who has delivered Mindfulness and Mindful Movement Classes to this amazing charity for the last 4 years.
I am taking part in this fundraiser because AIMS has proved to be a lifeline to so many people, not only MS but also other neurological conditions and stress-related illnesses that many of us hide and battle through every day. We are growing in numbers, but need the funding to continue.
AIMS is run by a devoted team of retired volunteers who pour their time, energy, and hearts into the charity. They offer fitness, gentle movement classes, creative sessions, mindfulness, and a place where people feel seen, understood, and genuinely welcomed.
Instructors, volunteers and supporters of the charity, witness the positive impact of these sessions.
Members tell us they feel at home, less alone and classes are their lifelines. Their mobility improves, their confidence grows, and their spirits lift. The monthly social gatherings, the camaraderie and the relief of knowing they don’t have to walk this journey alone matter more than words can say.
AIMS receives no major external funding and relies on donations and fundraising to continue. We need additional resources to sustain and expand services.
If you’re able to contribute, your support will directly help people living with long‑term, complex conditions access community, connection, and care.
