Story

The precious time Damian and I got to spend with our darling girls, Mia & Amelia are treasured memories that will stay with us forever. 💗💗

We are raising funds to help buy equipment and to support the amazing work the midwives and the Neonatal team at the Royal Victoria Hospital do in very difficult and often heartbreaking circumstances. Sadly each week on average three babies pass away in the ward. We hope to raise funds so the department are able to purchase much needed equipment.

Our first daughter, Mia Rose, was born on 5th August 2011 and lived a few precious hours. The Neonatal team did all they could to look after Mia & I but sadly, Mia was called home and we had to say goodbye, probably the most difficult thing we have ever encountered. The devastation for Damian & I was unbearable.  The care and support from the team guided us through those difficult hours and days that followed and in many ways their knowledge and guidance is still supporting us.

Last year on 4th May 2016, our second daughter, Amelia, was born. Amelia also lived a few precious hours.  The Neonatal team were once again truly exceptional.  For a brief time, signs looked positive and we started to believe our miracle was becoming reality. However this was not the case and Amelia passed away in the early hours of 5th May.

It is very difficult to put into words our thoughts and feelings over the last 6 years and I'm not quite sure we are there yet.

When reflecting on our time in the Neonatal ward and all interactions with the team, the counselling beforehand, how information was relayed, the reassurances, the support, Damian & I both feel strongly that we want to do something in memory of our girls.  It is important for us to give something back so this amazing team can continue to make an impact where possible and help other families like us.

As we have gone on our journey it is remarkable how many people we have met who have found themselves in similar devastating circumstances.

Thanks for taking the time to read about our girls and sincere thanks for any donation you can afford, every little bit helps!

Thanks Nic & D xx
