Race to the Stones · 10 July 2021 to 11 July 2021 ·
On February 17th 2016, my girlfriend’s father David was ice climbing in Scotland when an avalanche hit. Devastatingly, he didn't survive. The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team found David and made sure he got to a hospital as quickly as possible. This is a team of brave volunteers who assist in remote incidents day and night, 365 days a year, in all weather conditions. Equipment used in rescues often needs replacing for safety reasons, and regular training is required so the volunteers are as able to respond to incidents as possible. Running costs for this crucial organisation are high, and they rely on donations so they can continue to provide critical rescue services to lost or injured mountaineers like David. David was an avid runner and the reason I ran my first trail marathon. This year would have been his 60th so it feels appropriate to run 60+ miles in his honour. I'm lucky enough to have friends who are also committing to running the race and are also going to help raise money for the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team.
