Charity football match against Everton v Hull City supporters · 11 May 2014

Everton in the Community is one of the UK's top sporting charities and firmly established on the world stage of community sports development. As the Blues' official charity it is considered one of the Premier League’s leading community schemes due to the quality and reach of its programmes.

Story

Everton in the Community is a leading sporting charity and is proud to deliver a range of programmes to promote health, education, social inclusion and equality of opportunity across Merseyside using the power of sport.

The Blues’ official charity aims to instil confidence in people by creating life-changing opportunities and thousands of people have already benefited from the magnificent work they do.

Everton in the Community’s work is vast and includes providing routes into education, training and employment, steering young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour and engaging children and adults, regardless of ability, in physical activity. In addition to helping individuals, Everton in the Community helps other charitable groups improve the lives of local people.

The Blues’ official charity is proud of its impressive achievements which include:

  • Supporting 1,500 local charities a year
  • Contributing to a 55% reduction in anti-social behaviour and a 79% reduction in crime in challenging areas across Merseyside
  • 100% success rate on all education programmes
  • Assisting 50% of participants on the employment programme to return to work
  • 26 disability teams

Everton’s community department has scooped a whole host of prestigious regional, national and international awards, beating off stiff competition from other big name brands and charities along the way.

In 2010 Everton’s ground-breaking Disability Programme achieved several honours, including the FA Community Club Charter Standard Award, which recognises the commitment to player and coach development.

In May 2011, the Disability Programme also won a ‘sporting Oscar’ at the Sports Industry Awards for ‘Best Community Programme’. The scheme beat Adidas, Manchester City, the Football Foundation, Premiership Rugby and the Cricket Foundation to the accolade.

Meanwhile ‘Imagine Your Goals’, a programme which aims to improve social inclusion and wellbeing for people with mental health issues, scooped gongs at the 2010 Sports Industry Awards and 2010 North West Football Awards, for ‘Best Community Programme of the Year’.

The charity as a whole was also commended in 2011 and was named ‘Best Community Scheme in Europe’ at the prestigious Stadium Business Awards, which were held at the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona and also ‘Best Grassroots Club Programme’ at the inaugural Northern Sports Awards in Manchester.

None of this fantastic and life-changing work would be possible without the kindness shown by our loyal supporters. Everton in the Community relies heavily on donations and fundraising to be able to deliver their vital programmes to improve the lives of vulnerable and underprivileged people across Merseyside.
