Story

Thanks for visiting my page.

This years challenge is a 28.5 mile swim around Manhattan Island, New York via the East River, Harlem River, and Hudson River, swimming under its 20 bridges.

The challenge is final part of Open Water swimmings Triple Crown, a journey which started in 2007 with my first swim of the English Channel and resumed in 2019 ,prior to the pandemic ,with the Catalina Channel.

The aim is to join the very few who have successfully achieved all three great swims. It  will be a proud moment in a journey that has had many high moments

My support of the British Heart Foundation goes back many years to when I undertook swimathons alongside my father following his first bi-pass operation (younger than my current age). He went on to have a number of stents and totalled eight bi-passes (2no. triples and a double) and we were so grateful to the technology of the BHF for his extended company years after his first Heart issues. He sadly died in May 2020.

Following the premature death of my brother-in-law from a heart attack in 2003 I undertook a number of triathlons (including an Ironman) and my first marathon (with my sister) in his memory for the benefit of the British Heart Foundation.

Early in 2016 Mark (Sheppy) ,a friend & mentor, tragically died of a heart condition. He was my Captain as we played Water Polo together for a number of successful teams for over 20 years growing up . A leader in & out of the water who not only had a passion for a full life he also had a love and talent for swimming & he will be with me throughout the swim.

BHF vision couldn’t be more ambitious - a world where people no longer die prematurely from heart disease. But it can’t be done alone. BHF are working alongside government, other health charities, health professionals and thousands of dedicated supporters to beat heart disease.

I hope you will see my association with the British Heart foundation is long standing and something very personal to me and my family and will choose to join me by supporting this great cause.

Every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
