Mercy Trust - Kilimanjaro Trek · 11 June 2010
Hello and welcome to my JustGiving page!
I have been raising money for the charity Mercy Rescue Trust through various fundraising events and the completion of my main goal, which was to trek up the physically and mentally enduring Mt. Kilimanjaro. I can officially say that I have achieved this goal, returning to England in one piece. Don't hesitate to add me on Facebook to see all the pictures of my adventures; mjsurf@btinternet.com
Fundraising that I have achieved
- A head shave at the East Berkshire college. Completed on 30/03/10, the proof is in the pictures :) Raised £115
- Auctioned off goodies which I have collected over the last few months from local businesses in the Slough area who have donated generously to this cause. This has included leisure, dinning and beauty vouchers as well as plenty of other goodies form WHSmiths, Boots and many more. This has raised just over £200 and there are still more to go so contact me for more details if you are interested?
- A scheme with Chris Adams who specialises in sports therapy 'No Hands' massage. To which your probably thinking, "what does he use" and the answer to that question is; 'don't let your imaginations get to creative'! He has trained other bodily limbs to become more sensitve, such as his forearms, that allow him to detect certain areas of the body that require attention. The logic is that why would you use your hands in the first place to give a massage? Becuase bones in your fingers and wrists are soo small that therapist often suffer from long term damage (RSI) as well as not providing the client with the most effective treatment as your hands can only cover a certain surface area. This generous guy has offered to give 2 full body massages a week for the discounted price of £10, of which will go straight to Mercy Rescue, to everyone I refer! Chris is based in Maidenhead, but he said that there are many other therapists across the country so if you interested then please get in contact on; 07747614469
- A bucket collection on the 27/03/10 was completed on the piatza, which involved approaching many people for donations in exchange for promotional wrist bands, asking shops to sell some bands on my behalf (Thankyou Pizza Pantry!) and wearing some pretty rediculous hats to attract as much attention as possible. Thanks Adam for joining in and helping out, couldn't have done it without you! Unfortunatley, we were stopped by the pandas after two and half hours to display a street collecting liscence, which had to be signed and approved of by the County Council. Although we managed to raise £111! Additional donations were made through my dad at his place of work = £25 (Cheers Daddy'o)
Additional information
The way in which the Kilimanjaro challenge is being arranged is through an organisation called Action Challenge who allow you to choose between two payment options. Option one is self funding, which requires a payment of £1,700 to cover all of your event costs, extra sponsorship can be raised to denote to the charity of your choice if you want to. Option two, minimum sponsorship (this is my selected option) - this requires you to raise a minimum of £3400 for your chosen charity. The way in which this works is Action Challenge take £1700 as standard for the event costs which therefore leaves the remaining amount for my chosen charity. However, I do not want people to get the wrong idea in thinking that part of their donation is for my benefit in performing the challenge therefore I have decided to cover the arrangement costs required by Action Challenge myself. This means that all contributions made and funds raised will go to the Mercy Rescue Trust.
