Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is SSG Kacer, Michael Ret. In 2008 I was on my 3rd deployment with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. During that deployment on 18June2008, I was on a mission that got hit by mortars. One of those mortars came through the roof of the building I was in. It came through the roof and landed on the window sill about 10' (3m) to the left of me. Suffering a 6" skull fracture, ear to ear fractured in 24 places, jaw broke in three, 2 collapsed lungs, 3 broke ribs, severed intestine, and left arm being amputated. After battling PTSD, alcoholism most my adult life and depression post injury, I found sports.
Completing my first Marathon in 2009, I started running. Not only marathons, Spartan Races and Tough Mudders, but Track and Field (athletics). Before I knew it, I was not only running to get away. Get away from my problems and myself. Then it hit me, why run from everything when I could run for something. Falling short of Paralympics in 2012 and 2016, I set my eyes and goals on becoming a premier Invictus Games Athlete to push and inspire others to find their limits so they can surpass them.
I was given today when I didn't have tomorrow. Now I compete in Para-Taekwondo, go to school to be a physical education teacher, and continue looking for a way to inspire others with and without disabilities to find their new normals and run with them.
