Story
In 2001 I ran the London Marathon. In the 22 years since then I have been very lucky to have married, have two wonderful children, have great friends, work for a company that is changing things for the better and managed to complete the Serpentine Swim.
In late May I am aiming to complete the London Classics Series by attempting the Ride London 100 mile cycle (apparently actually 105 miles) which I have no idea if I will finish of not but I will try - it's fair to say training has proved I am not a natural cyclist. Luckily I have two great friends cycling with me: Neil (who also ran the marathon with me) and David (who is one of the most natural sportsman I have ever met) and we'll do everything we can to make it around the course.
During the 22 years since the marathon there have been a lot of hard times as well and picking a charity (or two) to ride for has been very difficult when cancer, heart disease, animal welfare and children support impacts us all almost daily. In the end, I have chosen a national charity and a smaller local charity.
A great friend John has been suffering from a form of Alzheimer’s recently and its impact has been all too fast for him and his family. As such I will be riding for the Alzheimer's Society: "Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice."
In addition, I will be riding for Sevenoaks Larder which helps provide food locally to those who are struggling to pay for their weekly food shop.
I hope my sore legs and backside will be able to help those who have been suffering for many years, or have had their lives changed due to disease or circumstances beyond their control and, to that end, if anyone would be willing to sponsor me on my final 'Classic' that would be amazing. If you are able to, please use the team tab on this page to pick which charity you would like your funds to go to. Thank you in advance for anything you will be able to donate.
