Story

"It's 50 miles.  It's 50 miles of hills"...

Can you imagine being up a mountain in the Lake District at midnight, having run one and a half marathons but still having ten miles to go?  Nor can I!  But on 31st of July John and I will be doing this to raise money for children with Down's Syndrome and need your help...

My sister Amanda, gave birth to baby Oscar last year who has Down's Syndrome.  As you can imagine this was an enormous shock, not least because we had no real understanding of what it was and importantly, what is was not.  A year on and Amanda's family have had some really tough times with lots of visits to hospital, both planned and unplanned.  However things are now  starting to look up for Oscar and his family.

Sundowns are an award winning local charity who have supported Oscar, my sister, brother in law and their children in lots of practical ways including teaching signing to help communication, days out for the family or just listening and advising.  They are constantly in need of funding to ensure that their vital work can continue.

The event is the Lakeland 50, an ultramarathon which as the name suggests, is a VERY long way -  about the distance from Chester to Huddersfield.  To add interest there is 3000m of ascent (over 3 times as high as Scafell Pike!) on the route and we will need to navigate the whole way.

I've never done anything even close to this in difficulty before, in fact it  it  is the first physical challenge I've set myself up for which  I'm not certain I will complete.  So, at midnight, twelve hours after I started, when every sane part of me is screaming at me to stop I need something to help me keep going - your donations to Sundowns will give me that incentive to keep going.

In doing so we can help to ensure that this wonderful charity can continue their critical work in supporting children with Down's.  Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
