Story
On the 23rd April 2021, I sadly lost a great friend to Neuroendocrine Cancer. Three years on, Phil remains in the thoughts of many and it is still difficult to accept he is no longer with us. Phil was a person who wanted very little, but gave so much to others and I was privileged to have known him from a young age.
The years since he sadly left us have flown by and each anniversary year I, like others reflect on the great memories he gave us. Phil was aware of my passion for running and many times threatened to join me running the London Marathon.
In October 2021, I took the challenge of running from my home in Watford to Fulham, passing many places where Phil and I enjoyed and finishing at the last place we shared with Phil on his journey to his funeral, Fulham Football Ground, completing 26.2 miles in his memory.
My effort raised nearly £4,000 for Neuroendocrine Cancer, thanks to generosity of my sponsors.
The London Marathon in 2023 will be run on 23rd April, which will be three years to the date of us losing Phil. I would like to raise additional funding in Phil's name for Neuroendocrine Cancer, the cancer that took Phil away from us by running not one but two marathons in his name in the month of April.
On Sunday 2nd April, I will be running the Brighton Marathon and on the 23rd April, I will be running the 'Virtual' London Marathon, having been unsuccessful in the ballot for the main race through the streets of London. For the first time challenging myself to two marathons in one month.
The 'Virtual' London Marathon allows participants to complete 26.2 miles on a route of their own choice, on the day of the official London Marathon. On the 23rd April I will be retracing my route from Watford to Fulham Football Club, finishing near The Mall, the finishing line of the official London Marathon, joining the many thousands crossing the official finish line.
Neuroendocrine Cancer UK is a UK wide charity solely dedicated to providing support and information to those affected by Neuroendocrine Cancer. Their mission is to support and inform patients and families from diagnosis, enabling access to the best care and treatment, whilst stimulating Neuroendocrine Cancer research, increasing national awareness and influencing improvements in outcomes.
I understand that we are currently experiencing a cost of living crisis and would ask that you consider sponsoring my challenge for what you can afford, and help me to help Neuroendocrine Cancer UK.
Thank you for your support, generosity and reading 'My Story' and I wish you, family and friends a happy and safe new year.
