Running for Stevo

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Thank you for visiting my page.
A year ago I set myself the challenge of running 2 marathons in 2022, Brighton (Apr) & London (Oct) in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK for one simple reason........
I met Steve in our first year at Loughborough and a close group of us have remained friends ever since, including him being best man at my wedding. However last summer I received the unimaginable news that he had suddenly collapsed at home and had passed away. This came as a total shock as although he had suffered with a heart condition in his twenties he had managed to not let it get in his way and continued to live life to the full. Ever since though he sought to try and understand the cause of his heart issues and it was only recently that he finally found the underlying cause, a diagnosis of Muscular Dystrophy (EDMD). Tragically though before any change of treatment could be implemented his life was cut short leaving his family & many friends devastated.
I have many amazing memories of great times with him but a sadness that there won't be any new ones. He always pushed me out of my comfort zone in the pursuit of having a good time, normally with vast quantities of alcohol!
It's in this spirit that I decided to set myself this personal challenge for 2022 but much more importantly to raise money to support MDUK's research. Part 1, Brighton in April went well with a PB for me in 4hrs 15 despite it being a warm sunny day. London is on Sunday Oct 2nd and I am hoping for cooler conditions! Training has been going well despite the challenges over the Summer of the hot weather, Covid and holidays. I have had many happy thoughts of Steve keeping me company on the long runs.
I know times are tough at the moment but all donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated as I try to meet my target of £2000.
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 70,000 children and adults living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. There's currently no cure, and in many cases, it limits lives. MDUK do vital work in funding pioneering research into treatments and cures as well as providing vital information, advice, resources and support for individuals and families living with these conditions.
