In July 2021 my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with Throat Cancer. After three months of aggressive chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment and three months of nervous waiting, I was given the all clear in February 2022. 

I have decided that it's time to give something back. As February 4th is World Cancer Day and February 2023 will mark my one year anniversary of being cancer free, it's the perfect day to do a life story walk to raise much needed funds for Leeds Cancer Centre where NHS staff already do an incredible job caring for patients, but your support can help them do even more, funding the things that make a real difference to patients and their families.

The walk will start from my home in Horsforth and finish at my childhood home in Kippax, along the way I will visit places that have meant a lot to me during my life, including Headingley Stadium, home of the Leeds Rhinos, where me and my late father spent many happy times. Sites from my youth include the University Refectory where I attended my first gig in 1979 (Boomtown Rats), the famous Brudenell Social Club where I've seen many bands, including my son's punk band, the Warehouse night club still exists, remarkably, but my old haunt The Phono, in the Merrion Centre is sadly no longer there. These night clubs shaped the person I am.

I will of course be popping into Leeds Railway Station where my brilliant, supportive Northern Rail colleagues have been raising money since I announced this walk, then I'll make my way up to the Oncology Dept at the Bexley Wing, St James's to drop off thank you cards. Then It's off to Kippax, the place I called home for the first eighteen years of my life.
